Choosing the right music for your sales point is never easy and needs you to focus on many points.
First question, when dealing with this decision, is whether we should use a latest-top-trending-hits selection – with tracks like Lady Gaga’s, Ed Sheeran’s or Beyoncé’s – or rather opt for less recognizable and non-popular songs, in order not to distract the customer during the purchasing process.
Many are the studies that support the latter choice, stating it’s rather the less identifiable music that improves purchases, with a consequent raising turnover. Some of these studies believe customers find less-recognizable-music selections as better in line with the context.
Does this mean we should avoid pop music and radio hits in our stores? Radio hits may not be necessary, but this doesn’t imply pop music should not be used, especially if considered in its overall nature. Nor does it imply we should necessarily choose tracks from other music worlds, such as rock, electronic and rap. It surely depends on many aspects of the matter.
Pop music as quality one, as radio macrogenre using a plain and direct tracks’ structure, as well as an easily readable language for the store’s customers, can be a remarkable added value for shopkeepers, especially if its message fits the store’s environment and aligns with the brand’s image and values.
Tracks’ accurate but plain tempo and arrangement, as well as the songwriting process in the first place, can significantly affect the final perception of music and the customers’ behaviour.
That’s why our Music Supervisors are often searching for the best pop songs available, even if they’re less popular, to create excellent playlists to accompany the customer’s shopping experience in more than 60,000 sales points in 27 countries of the world.
Popflavour is a perfect example: a special playlist, where every song matters and has a meaning, a high-emotional and positive music selection, with no particular genre limits. Breathing, airy music, pop songs, soul and funk vibes, jazz voices, the pathos of certain rock songs, an attentive and precise tracks selection, working on the growth of the positivity and the joy of the listener.
